sheltered dementia area
The Sonnenhalde
Living in a protected environment
The sheltered dementia areas in the nursing homes of Servicehaus Sonnenhalde are specially designed to meet the needs of people suffering from dementia. The rooms are designed to be very open and manageable, activity zones are marked by decorative accents.
The homely atmosphere is supported both by the inviting and cosy ambience and by antiquarian individual pieces. The residents' safety is ensured by a coded locking system. Personal pictures and objects are added for the well-being and orientation of each resident.
The sheltered dementia area offers barrier-free movement possibilities
- in the form of a tour, an aquarium or the large windows with views of the landscape around, the entrance area and the city below.
- The sensory garden in Trochtelfingen, Stockach and Singen serves as a sheltered outdoor area and has further walking paths and activity opportunities. The vegetable and herb garden offers impressions and tastes to the eyes and palate.
Individual employment offers and daily routines
We offer our residents a predefined structured daily routine without restricting the freedom of choice of individual daily organisation. Group activities take place in small, homogeneous groups so that all participants can be equally involved.
We first look at what a person can do and then try, together with him, to restore his lost abilities from this ability.
People with dementia and old-age depression often react very strongly to their counterpart, feel insecure easily and take a protective or aggressive stance.
The goal of the Sonnenhalde is maintain quality of life and perhaps restore lost independence.
- Each resident is accompanied by a caregiver throughout their stay.
- These caregivers offer residents security and trust, adjust to the person being cared for and plan, monitor and regularly adjust care together with them, their relatives and, if necessary, a doctor.
We help the residents to shape their own lives, to give life meaning and significance, to promote perception and movement and to actively participate in conversation themselves.
Person-centred care according to the Kitwood approach
The overall goal of person-centred care is to maintain, promote or, if necessary, restore the personhood of people with dementia.
We strengthen the well-being of our residents by giving them the feeling of being worth something, of being able to do something and make a difference, of having contact with others, and we give them security, basic trust and hope.
